Outpatient –Many of the clinicians in the Department of Pediatrics conduct a variety of testing for children "by referral" in our outpatient department. The Pediatric Outpatient Department is located on the 3rd floor just inside the Robert and Maryann McDonald Seacareium of the North Collier Hospital.
Sedation – Children receive sedation more frequently than adults largely due to diagnostic procedures that require controlled settings and limited to no movement. Our specially trained nursing staff provides safe and effective pediatric moderate sedation for a variety of these tests including MRI, CAT Scanning and EEG.
Echocardiogram – Creates a detailed image of the beating heart using noninvasive ultrasound imaging; can pinpoint structural defects or abnormalities in the way blood flows.
Infusion therapy – Infusion therapy is administered to infants, children and adolescents who require either one-time or ongoing IV therapy for a variety of acute and chronic illnesses. Staff members also perform blood draws and manage centrally placed catheters.
Lab Services – Our pediatric trained nurses are skilled in collecting blood from pediatric patients of all ages.
The outpatient department is a spacious and open area that allows nurses to implement care for their patients in a relaxed and fun environment. The outpatient department provides a safe, stress-free area where children can relax, read, watch movies or play video games during their visits.
We encourage an adult caregiver to remain with their child during any treatment, allowing us to teach and support family-centered care. Treatment times can vary, from as little as 15 minutes up to 4 hours.
