Mario E Tano, MD, has served as Chief of Medicine at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in Hollywood, FL for the past two years. Prior to this position he served as Medical Director of the CF Center at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital since 1990. Dr. Tano also maintains a private practice as a pediatric gastroenterologist at the Children's Center for Gastroenterology & Nutrition in Hollywood, FL.
In addition to serving as Medical Director. He earned his Medical Degree from the Universidad Nordestana School of Medicine in San Francisco de Macoris in the Dominican Republic. Dr. Tano has held positions as Clinical Assistant Instructor at the State University of New York at Buffalo from 1984 to 1989 and Clinical and Research Fellow in Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition from 1987 to 1989. He completed his pediatric residency at SUNY Buffalo from 1984 to 1987. From 1989 to 1990, he served a Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA as Clinical Assistant Instructor and Clinical Fellow in Pediatric Gastroenterology and Cystic Fibrosis.
From 1981 to 1983, Dr. Tano made his home in South Florida and focused his attention on serving as House Physician at the Palm Springs General Hospital in Hialeah and American Hospital in Miami. In 1983, he completed a postgraduate clerkship in general pediatrics, hematology and emergency medicine while at Miami Children's Hospital. He has published articles concentrating on cystic fibrosis and nutritional support in chronic diarrhea in children, and he has been published in the Journal of Nutrition as well. He is licensed in the State of Florida and is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.
Dr. Tano earned Physician of the Year in 2002 and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, as well as a member of the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Nutrition. He is also a member of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.
