NCH Healthcare System Appoints New Chief Executive Officer

(Naples, FL) The Board of Trustees of the NCH Healthcare System announced the appointment of Allen S. Weiss, M.D. as the new CEO of the NCH Healthcare System. Weiss, who has served as NCH President, was selected by the Succession Planning Committee and recommended to the full Board of Trustees on September 27th. The Board of Trustees unanimously approved the recommendation of the Succession Planning Committee and appointed Weiss as CEO at the late afternoon Board of Trustees meeting on Wednesday, September 27, 2006. Weiss assumed his new position as CEO effective immediately.

Weiss succeeds NCH Chief Executive Officer Edward Morton, who in August 2005 advised the Board of Trustees of his plans to retire. Morton, who has been part of the management team at NCH since August 1972 and who served as Chief Financial Officer from 1972-1999, was named Chief Executive Officer on October 1, 2000, following the retirement of the former CEO, William Crone.

Weiss joined NCH management team in March 2000 when he was appointed Executive Vice President of Medical Affairs. In October 2000, he was promoted to the position of President of the NCH Healthcare System, and in that role, has worked closely with Morton and the Board of Trustees to formulate and implement the policies of the organization. Prior to joining the management team, Weiss practiced as a private physician, board certified in Internal Medicine, Rheumatology, and Geriatrics.

The Succession Planning Committee interviewed a handful of exceptionally fine candidates for this key position. Individuals from different regions of the United States were carefully considered. Ultimately, the decision to select Allen Weiss as the CEO, to succeed Ed Morton, emerged as the right decision. "Dr. Weiss’ intelligence, character, ability, and absolute sense of integrity are the fundamental factors that lead to the unanimous decision by our Board of Trustees that he lead our community supported healthcare system," said Carl Westman, NCH Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

"The NCH Healthcare System has a history of excellence in terms of the vision and expectations of its leaders. The Board of Trustees is confident with its decision, and looks forward to the innovative advancements that will surely follow in the years ahead," adds Westman.
