During the Olympic Games patients were encouraged to participate in different activities which challenged new and old skills from memory to physical tests. The Brookdale events prompted patients to participate, give support to their fellow friends, and to feel good about what they have accomplished thus far.
The whole event is truly a tribute to the value of rehabilitative medicine--helping people reconnect with their capabilities. This event allowed for families, nurses, therapists and other team members support and inspire patients to work toward a common goal to the best of their abilities.
The rehab staff was engaged in making a therapeutic experience while nurturing the spirit of each of the participants. Many of the patients’ families and staff members throughout the hospital were able to see the patients in action.
“Each of the patients were so vested in each event, taking pride in their own performance, but also wanting to impress the onlookers with what they could do when taking the challenge seriously”, said Heather Baker, Brookdale’s administrative director.
As an acute care provider for inpatient rehabilitation, the Brookdale Center for Healthy Aging & Rehabilitation provides rehabilitative services for patients recovering from an acute injury, such as a stroke or trauma, but also for patients with chronic debilitating conditions.
Over 800 patients are treated at the NCH rehabilitation facility every year. The rehab hospital is a 54 bed acute rehabilitation provider serving community of Naples and the surrounding region. The primary focus is to assist the patient to reintegrate into an independent lifestyle within the community.
