Welcome Kristin Mascotti M.D. as New Chief Medical Officer of NCH Healthcare System

NAPLES, Fla. – April 17, 2020 – After an extensive search that lasted several months, we are proud to announce Kristin Mascotti, M.D. as New Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the NCH Healthcare System.

Quality patient care is always the driving force behind all NCH initiatives. Over the past few months, NCH leadership led a national search facilitated by a physician centric search committee who worked with Russell Reynolds to identify the best candidates in the US. During this time we diligently interviewed numerous highly qualified candidates to find the right leader for the medical staff at NCH.

“After an exhaustive national search, we are happy to have discovered such an excellent physician for our new Chief Medical Officer. Her executive leadership experience and proven collaborative successes along with her collegial and friendly demeanor made her the clear choice for our organization. I am proud to have been a part of the recruitment effort to bring such talent to our medical community,” said Bryan Murphey, M.D., NCH Interim Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. Mascotti comes to NCH from Long Beach Medical Center and Miller Children’s & Women’s where she served as Chief Quality Officer. Prior to her role at Long Beach Medical Center, Dr. Mascotti was the Vice President of Clinical Quality at University of Minnesota Health, where she led the strategic vision and implementation of quality performance initiatives in partnership with administrative, clinical leadership and front-line staff.

Dr. Mascotti is “one of the nation’s highly respected physician leaders and innovators in clinical quality and best practice, evidence-based medicine who led quality efforts at academic medical centers and teaching hospitals,” according to a statement from MemorialCare.

She has been leading COVID-19 efforts at Long Beach Medical Center and previously had extensive experience with infectious diseases. She worked alongside the Chief Nursing Officer as the joint lead on the 2014/2015 Ebola efforts while at the University of Minnesota to create the Special Pathogen Containment Unit for the state of Minnesota and Midwest region.

The team was awarded a $5MM federal grant, became CDC certified, and was awarded best practices for PPE and SWAT teams.

Certified as a Physician Executive from the American Association for Physician Leadership, Dr. Mascotti completed her Master’s Degree in Healthcare Quality and Safety Management from Thomas Jefferson University School of Population Health. Board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, she graduated summa cum laude in biology from University of Wisconsin, received her medical degree at University of Minnesota Medical School, was chief resident at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis and completed a Fellowship in Transfusion Medicine at University of Minnesota.

Her colleagues describe her as someone who has a proven ability to work cross-functionally in team environments to evaluate, develop and implement best practice initiatives that promote excellence across the entire continuum of patient care.

“Dr. Mascotti’s experience and background in patient quality and safety are sure to lend fresh perspective to her new role as Chief Medical Officer – particularly, her background in infectious disease will be of vital importance for us at this very moment. I look forward to working with her in continuing the Healthcare System’s efforts in building bridges to bring all of our community’s physicians closer together,” said Paul Jones, M.D.

We will be sharing more information about our new CMO in the coming weeks so that everyone can help make Dr. Mascotti’s introduction to the Southwest Florida community a successful one.

Dr. Mascotti will arrive June 1 to begin as our new CMO.
