|NCH CyberKnife Team Awarded National Recognition|
March 30, 2006 - (Naples, FL) Debra Freeman, M.D., Radiation Oncologist, David Spellberg, M.D., Urologist and MaryEllen Masterson-McGary, M.S., Medical Physicist, were awarded top honors at the annual CyberKnife user’s meeting in San Diego recently. Dr. Freeman’s presentation on the NCH Healthcare System’s protocol for early stage treatment of prostate cancer was judged best urology paper among of all those presented from this international symposium, including Stanford University.
According to John Adler, founder and developer of the CyberKnife System and Professor of Neurosurgery at Stanford University, “The prostate treatment being developed in part by Dr. Freeman and the team at the NCH Healthcare System takes maximum advantage of the CyberKnife’s unique targeting accuracy and robotic delivery system.” Adler adds, “I truly believe that the research being done in Naples is likely to give men with early stage prostate cancer an important new effective, safe, and convenient option for eradicating their tumors.”
