An under-serviced area of south Lee County now gets to look forward to two new outpatient clinics coming by the end of the year. On Friday, NCH Healthcare Systems announced that their new outpatient medical center in Bonita Springs will be opening in early December. That new building will be less than a mile away from Lee Health's new outpatient center.

The $34 million facility will feature a 24/7 emergency room, surgery center and an outpatient imaging center. It's part of an effort by NCH Healthcare Systems to make healthcare more accessible in southern Lee County. But the 24/7 emergency room won't function as a hospital. It will only stabilize patients and transfer them to one of NCH's Collier County Hospitals.

“It’s to keep people healthier," said Phil Dutcher, CEO for NCH Healthcare System. "These types of ambulatory centers should go a long way to keep people out of more expensive acute care in the hospital so we are on a course to put ourselves out of business with the acute care hospital and keep people healthy, in these types of settings or in their home.”

NCH also said that while the first floor of the new building will be open in early December, the second floor offices won't be completed until early 2019.

Lee Health's new facility will also be opening in December.
