Straight TalkA weekly update from management on the issues that matter most. Jun 7, 2018 Having health care professionals and services close to home is convenient and efficient for everyone—patients, families, communities, physicians, non-physician practitioners, and healthcare systems. NCH, along with many other progressive healthcare systems, has been serving its neighbors with a “hub-and-spoke model” by locating commonly needed health services in the communities it serves. Frequently used health services such as Emergency or Immediate Care, physician or non-physician practitioner visits, and other ancillary services such as diagnostic imaging, rehabilitation therapy, sleep centers, etc. are now in locations matching the growth of Southwest Florida. Patients needing hospitalization are easily and quickly referred to either of our hospitals—Baker Hospital or North Naples Hospital. Healthcare, at $3.4 trillion dollars, consumes almost 18% of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product—a far greater percentage and amount than any other country. Spending so much on healthcare decreases the funding for other important common needs such as education, environment, and infrastructure. This week we opened NCH Healthcare Southeast at 7717 Collier Boulevard with the following services: NCH Immediate Care—treating non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries, welcoming walk-ins from 9 AM to 7 PM daily except Sunday, noon to 7 PM, @ 624-8220 NCH Physician Group—Family and Internal Medicine physicians, caring for newborns to geriatrics with full lab and preventive services; appointments required @ 624-8300 NCH Sleep Center—diagnosing sleep related problems such as apnea, snoring, insomnia, narcolepsy, etc. @ 624-8290 NCH Outpatient Rehabilitation—Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapies for adults and children with orthopedic, neurologic, and developmental disorders @ 624-1900 NCH Imaging—Diagnostic, CT, MRI, 3D Mammography, DEXA Bone Density, and Ultrasound @ 624-4443 We have had Immediate Care on Marco Island for 33 years, Davis Boulevard for 15 years, Vanderbilt Beach Road for 7 years, and NCH Northeast Free Standing Emergency Department for 2.5 years, and we will have NCH Bonita Free Standing Emergency Department opening in late 2018. NCH’s out-patient facilities are the only ones Joint Commission certified in Southwest Florida. Our cardiac mortality is lower than expected, and the chances of recovering from a stroke are better due to the Save-A-Heart program started in 2000 and the Save-A-Brain program started in 2013, respectively. At any for our emergency departments or immediate care facilities you can quickly be diagnosed, treated, and if necessary, transported to the appropriate hospital. Our results are excellent with our hub-and-spoke model. Efficient access and delivery will help everyone live a longer, happier, and healthier life. P.S.
